Planning a trip to Iceland with a group?

If you are planning a trip to Iceland for a group, Lava Hostel is a great location for the first and last stop of your trip. It is located in Hafnarfjörður, which is a town only 15 minutes to downtown Reykjavík. It is also just 35 minutes from the international airport. We offer accommodation for affordable prices, both in dormitories from 4-8 people in each room or in a Grand Hall which takes about 40 persons in sleeping bag accommodation. There is a kitchen for the group to use to make breakfast, lunch or dinner, or you can order a breakfast buffet for the group. Just send us an email with the dates and the size of the group and we will make you a good offer. We could also assist you with booking airport pick-up and drop-off for the group. See also here further information about amenities at the hostel. Best wishes The Lava Hostel Staff 🙂

A group of scouts from Portugal

We got a very friendly visit form a group of scouts from Portugal that stayed at our campsite. They wanted to do some volunteer work four our scout center, but Hraunbyrgi, our scout center runs Lava Hostel to finance its scouting activities. They did a great job, with inside and around the property, which we are so thankful of 🙂

Visiting Iceland during the Winter

Have you ever been to Iceland during winter time? There are lots of things to do and see during the winter. We have breathtaking landscapes, where you can visit our waterfalls in winter gear, hike our glaciers, take a peek into an amazing ice-cave and on the way you might see a volcano, black sandy beaches and experience a weather that changes every minute! But what may surprise you is that the temperature isn´t as low as you thought it might be and can often be warmer then in New York, London or Paris. After a nice winter day-trip don´t miss our geothermal public pools, were you can swim outside every day, even in winter. Don´t miss the Northern Lights show in the evening, but the best time to see them is during winter time as it doesn’t get very dark here during the summer.
