Welcome to Lava Hostel
Lava Hostel is owned and run by Hraunbúar (English translations could be “lava dwellers”), the scout group in Hafnarfjörður—one of Iceland’s oldest and biggest scouting groups, founded in 1925. Our Hostel is only open from the 15th of May until the 15th of September. All profits go to building a bigger and better scouting community in Hafnarfjörður.
We offer a friendly atmosphere and low-price accommodations for groups. Our Hostel is just a short walk from the town centre, with cosy restaurants, cafes, and free museums.
Hafnarfjörður is known as the Viking Centre and also Iceland’s unofficial elf capital. Endless lava fields and natural treasures surround this charming seaside town with colourful houses. It is the third-largest town in Iceland, with many attractions and activities to discover, including kayaking and horseback riding tours in the lava fields.
If your mind is torn between city life and quiet nature, Lava Hostel is the place for you. It is a perfect base to explore Iceland as we are only a 15-minute drive from Reykjavík and 30 min from Keflavík airport.

We are located at Hjallabraut 51, 220 Hafnarfjörður.
FROM KEF AIRPORT:
You can take Flybus to the stop “Fjörukráin – Hotel Viking”. From there walk to Fjörður and take the bus number 19 going to Kaplakriki, stop at Hjallabraut / Skjólvangur. “Fjörukráin” stop is about 20 min walk to Lava Hostel.
Alternatively you can take the public transit bus (Strætó) number 55 from Keflavík airport and stop at Fjörður and from there take the bus number 19 going to Kaplakriki and stop at Hjallabraut / Skjólvangur.

FROM BSÍ/DOWNTOWN REYKJAVÍK:
You can take bus number 1 and stop at Fjörður from there take bus number 19 going to Kaplakriki and stop at Hjallabraut / Skjólvangur.
