Lava Hostel is owned and operated by the Hraunbúar scout group based in Hafnarfjörður. It provides a welcoming atmosphere combined with affordable accommodation options suitable for groups. The establishment is conveniently located a short distance from the town center, which features a diverse selection of cozy restaurants, cafes, and complimentary museums.

Hafnarfjörður is renowned as the Viking Center and is widely recognised as Iceland’s unofficial elf capital. This picturesque seaside town is surrounded by extensive lava fields and natural attractions, distinguished by its colorful architecture. As the third-largest town in Iceland, Hafnarfjörður offers various attractions and activities, including kayaking and horseback riding tours in the captivating lava fields.

For those who seek a balance between urban life and serene natural environments, Lava Hostel serves as an ideal base for exploration. The hostel is situated only 15 minutes from Reykjavík and 30 minutes from Keflavík Airport.

Our facility is well-equipped to accommodate groups of up to 80 individuals during the summer season and up to 60 individuals during the winter season. We take pride in our flexibility and dedication to fulfilling our guests’ needs, which is a significant factor in the loyalty of returning groups.

Lava Hostel features a range of dormitories and private rooms, along with a communal dining area and guest kitchen. Additionally, we offer a spacious assembly hall that can be reserved for lodging larger groups (up to 50 individuals) or for meetings and conferences.

Breakfast and lunch packages are available for groups at an additional cost, contingent upon prior arrangements.

All profits generated by the hostel are reinvested into supporting the activities of the Hraunbúar scout group in Hafnarfjörður.

The hostel operates from May 15th to September 15th, after which it remains open to groups of 10 or more with reservations required at least two weeks in advance.

• Non-smoking hostel
• Leave valuables at your own risk, all rooms are locked.
• Over the winter months the hostel is only available for group bookings of 10 or more people, booked 2 weeks in advance
• All theft is reported to the police.
• You must pay for all the damages that you cause to our property.
• 3 day cancellation
