The staff and guests of Lava Hostel and Hafnarfjörður campsite are excited for the weekend ahead. On Friday the 17th of June there will be a big celebration in our town, as well as the whole country. Since the year 1944, Iceland has celebrated it´s independents day on the 17th of June. We recommend your plan on Friday to be a helium balloon in one hand and a cotton candy in the other and the song “Hæ, hó jibbí jey, jibbí jey, það er kominn sautjándi júní” coming from your lips. In a very basic translation it means. “whoop whoop, it´s the 17th of june!”. We are not only celebrating our national day this weekend. There will be a big Viking Festival in our town, you can see all about the events schedule here . In our opinion the festival is not something to be missed. In Reykjavík there will be the Secret Solstice festival music festival. So if you haven´t booked a place to stay we still have some beds available at our hostel and if you want to sleep in peace and quiet during the festival but still at the capital area our campsite is only 15 min drive away from Reykjavík […]
We can happily inform you we have opened Lava Hostel and Hafnarfjörður campsite for the summer. The sun has started to shine 24hours a day and that is in our opinion the best time for travelling, ice-cream and bbq in Iceland. Our campsite does not need reservation and rooms at our hostel can be booked on our webpage or on booking.com we also offer mattresses in our big hall for groups of 15-45 persons. We still have some dates available this summer at our hostel. The weekend 16-19th of June is a big festival weekend in Hafnarfjörður and Reykjavík. The annual Viking Festival will take place in Hafnarfjörður. The Viking festival is a family festival which mostly takes place at the Viking village and the it definitely should not be missed. Children can attend school for real Vikings and the whole family can see a Viking battle. The area can be easily reached on foot. You can see the program here. Secret Solstice music festival will take place in Reykjavík during the same weekend. The festival area is easily reachable, only 10 min drive or one bus ride away. We still have some rooms available during the weekend. If you have […]
If you are planning a trip to Iceland for a group, Lava Hostel is a great location for the first and last stop of your trip. It is located in Hafnarfjörður, which is a town only 15 minutes to downtown Reykjavík. It is also just 35 minutes from the international airport. We offer accommodation for affordable prices, both in dormitories from 4-8 people in each room or in a Grand Hall which takes about 40 persons in sleeping bag accommodation. There is a kitchen for the group to use to make breakfast, lunch or dinner, or you can order a breakfast buffet for the group. Just send us an email with the dates and the size of the group and we will make you a good offer. We could also assist you with booking airport pick-up and drop-off for the group. See also here further information about amenities at the hostel. Best wishes The Lava Hostel Staff 🙂
This amazing couple were our last campsite guests of the season, but they finished their Iceland tour on the 2nd of November 2015. They travelled with their bicycles from the Capital, Reykjavík to Höfn in Hornafjörður and back during the last weeks of October. Our campsite on Víðistaðartún, by Lava Hostel offers great facilities like: Free wifi Free hot showers Free use of washing machine and dryer Free cooking facilities and dining area in the hostel Free parking
We got a very friendly visit form a group of scouts from Portugal that stayed at our campsite. They wanted to do some volunteer work four our scout center, but Hraunbyrgi, our scout center runs Lava Hostel to finance its scouting activities. They did a great job, with inside and around the property, which we are so thankful of 🙂
